Full Access Is a Right

Most people expect to be able to pick up the phone and call a cab anytime they need one and only pay a fare for the actual distance they travel, but in Topeka if you use a wheelchair you must reserve your ride in advance and pay a minimum of $25 per ride!

• It’s NOT FAIR to make PEOPLE that use a wheelchair pay extra to ride taxi cabs in our city!

We at Topeka Independent Living Resource Center strongly believe in Human and Civil Rights.  Our mission is to advocate for justice, equality, and essential services for a fully integrated and accessible society for all people with disabilities.

We believe that people who use wheelchairs should have the same access to taxi cab services in Topeka that everyone else enjoys! That’s why we are starting a campaign to encourage taxi services in Topeka to provide accessible cabs and equivalent services to riders with disabilities.
