TLP (FP) is a unique program funded by the Topeka Independent Living Resource Center, for individuals with disabilities seeking freedom and personal choice in their lives.
Those individuals currently living in a nursing facility, or other controlled care facility, a hospital, experiencing homeless due to inaccessible housing, or those outside the state wishing to move to Kansas to obtain HCBS services, who need a temporary shelter in which to obtain skills necessary to maintain independent living or relearn skills after a disabling accident, can stay up to 8 weeks in our visitable, basic access house.
Purpose
It is the goal of the TLP (FP) to provide accessible, affordable and integrated short-term transitional living options for people with disabilities moving out of an institutional setting, or who are relocating in order to obtain necessary services toward the goal of self sufficiency and a self-directed future, with equal rights and justice. TLP (FP) is designed to provide short- term living options for qualified people with disabilities to have the opportunity to access a variety of skills, services and knowledge which support their goals of independent living.
TLP participants may choose from a wide array of advocacy and services that fit their personal needs and reflect their unique lifestyle and interests.
Any person with a disability who wants to live in an integrated society, and needs to find temporary living arrangements toward their goal of achieving skills or services necessary for independent living, can apply to TLP (FP).
Preference will be given to the following situations:
Any person with a disability who need short term transitional living arrangements is eligible to apply for the TLP (FP), even if they do not fit one of the preference groups above. Applicants not in a preference category will be considered on an individual basis, based on their particular situation.
Important:
Persons accessing the transitional living program (TLP) (FP) do not have to accept any services from TILRC or anyone else. They do, however, have to be moving out of an institution or other facility, comply with all program provisions, pay an established “fee” and make plans to obtain their own housing in the 2 month period. This provision will be contained in their TLP agreement.
Only those persons referred by TILRC and its satellite offices will be considered for the TLP (FP). Referrals from other organizations or agencies must go through the designated advocate, Steve Richardson, prior to being considered for possible participation in TLP (FP). All referrals will go through the designated advocate.
